While Siren Molly Watsa was down in Paradise Island, Bahamas this past April visiting Atlantis she was lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes look at Dolphin Cay and the resort’s Marine Habitat and Medical Lab.
Did you know that Atlantis, Paradise Island’s Marine Habitat is home to 250 different species and over 50,000 fish (not including all of the 31 resident dolphins)? This was just one of the many different marine tidbits I picked up while participating in the resort’s Atlantis Aquarist for a Day program.
The Medical Lab at Dolphin Cay is the only veterinary diagnostic facility in the Bahamas. They offer 24 hour care for all of the resident species and will offer in-patient care for other animals in need from all over the Caribbean. With high tech equipment such as state-of-the-art ultrasound and X-Ray machines, the Medical Lab at Atlantis rivals some of the top hospitals in the world.
All of the resident dolphins and sea lions dine on restaurant quality fish flown in all the way from… CANADA! Flash frozen to maintain the vitamins, the freezer at Dolphin Cay holds a three month supply of fish courtesy of Allen’s Fisheries LTD in Newfoundland.
The Medical Lab at Dolphin Cay at Atlantis is THE place to get cataract surgery outside of the United States if you are this guy.
After exploring behind the scenes I was not shocked to hear that getting a job as part of the team of aquarists at Dolphin Cay is more coveted than a reservation a Nobu!
