Ann Layton is one of the worlds leading specialists in the field of travel and tourism communications. Prior to founding Siren Communications in 2002, Ann was the worldwide Vice President Public Affairs and Communications for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts, responsible for all public affairs for over 70 luxury hotels on three continents.

Ann has been the recipient of numerous international awards. Creator of one of the most ambitious environmental programs in the industry, she was named “Green Hotelier of the Year” by the International Hotel and Restaurant Association in Paris. Her “Adopt a Shelter” initiative, which partnered hotels with local shelters for battered women, beat out 1,500 submissions from 45 countries to win “Best in Show” at the prestigious Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Golden Bell Awards in New York City.

Ann is the recipient Toronto Life Magazine’s “Women who make a difference Award” for top communications professional in Toronto, and was recognized by Chatelaine magazine in their “Top Entrepreneurs in Canada” issue as one of “The Fixers – Women who are making the workplace better.” Ann was one of four individuals chosen for a nationally televised W5 documentary which aired on CTV entitled “Canadians who are making an international impact.”

Ann has served on the Communications Committee of the World Travel and Tourism (WTTC) Council in London, England and was an original contributor to the International Hotels Environment Initiative (IHEI) under the auspices of the Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum. She was the first-ever Chair of the Communications Committee of the Canadian Tourism Commission. (CTC)

A popular speaker, Ann has given speeches on a range of critical issues facing the tourism industry at conferences in Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, the US, the UK, France and Austria. In 2001, she was the Keynote Speaker at the national conference of CHRIE - the Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Education.

Ann currently sits on the Organizing Committee for the Innovators Ball to benefit the Ontario Science Centre. Siren Communications also contributes to a number of high profile fundraising events including “Fandango”, to benefit Bridgeport Health and “Mad Hot Ballet” for the National Ballet of Canada.

Prior to joining Fairmont, Ann was a consultant with Hill and Knowlton, winning the John K. Hill award for excellence after only eight months with the company.

Ann has a Master’s Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and is fluent in French and Spanish.
